The Esplanade – Opening Festival
Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay is a waterside building located on six hectares of waterfront land alongside Marina Bay near the mouth of the Singapore River, purpose-built to be the centre for performing arts for the island nation of Singapore. Taking its name from the nearby Esplanade, it contains a Concert Hall which seats about 1,600 and a Theatre with a capacity of about 2,000 for the performing arts.
Quentin was appointed to develop a promotional identity for opening festival, with applications across a wide range of print material, advertising and signage. The brief was to create a consistent design that echoed the vibrancy and to inject a visceral reaction to the local arts scene. There was also a need to position Esplanade as an aspirational, design-led brand, developing a sophisticated language and an elegant, contemporary identity to reflect their positioning. The objective was to make each set of materials – posters, catalogues, invites – create a distinct event identity, and be as eye-catching as possible.
